Introducing Artist Vicki Frasco
Vicki Frasco is a long time resident of Darien IL and a mother of an amazing 25 year old son. Vicki is a self taught artist, who works in the corporate world. She finds that art is her “calm”, a stress reliever from her busy work day life.
Who or what inspired you to draw and paint?
My travels, the sense of wanderlust, and my love of nature and the great outdoors inspired my art.
How long have you been an artist?
I am not a trained artist, but have always had an interest in art and photography. I have been painting since January 2014.
When did you first know you had an artistic talent?
When I was younger, I enjoyed drawing. I lost sight of my love of art over the years. A friend asked that I attend a wine and painting outing a few years back. The instructor commented on my painting. I had never painted and this sparked a desire. I went and bought myself some canvas, brushes and paints. And so it began!
What type of medium (s) do you work with?
The medium for my art is mainly acrylic but I also use color pencils and oil crayons.
What is your favorite type of medium and why?
Acrylics for sure! They are very forgiving and easy to work with. I am constantly learning new ways to use the paint and brushes. I recently met an incredible artist in Door Co. WI, Arnold Alaniz, and he has been so generous in giving me direction.
I noticed you have a variety of subjects you draw and paint. What is your favorite subject and why?
I have a fascination with hummingbirds, as they are amazing creatures and a favorite of my late mothers. When I paint or draw hummingbirds, it creates a feeling of connecting with her.
What was the most challenging piece of work that you have painted so far?
Calli. She was my pet cat that was with me for 17 years. I had to put her down early this year. So in her honor, I painted her. I think I captured her personality in her eyes.
Anywhere new! I love exploring, seeing new things, meeting new people and being outdoors be it mountains, trails, beaches or a path less traveled! There are so many things to see and experience in this world we live in!
You have a unique art display with interesting frames. What or who inspired you to create your display of work?
My son Cory created some of the frames you see in my display. He willingly gave his assistance in helping me prepare for it.
What is the name of your art business?
