At last, my second Children's book is here!
I wrote An African Painted Dog Without A Patch in 2012 and submitted it to my ex-publisher. When she closed her company due to an illness, I obtained all of my rights back for the book. I sent it out to other publishers who enjoyed the book, but didn't feel it fit their needs at the time. Since the book is dedicated to my parents, I wanted to make sure it was released while we are together here in Illinois, so I decided to self-publish the book.
Self publishing isn't as easy as one may think. First you need a good story, an illustrator, editor, formatter, and a target audience. Each of these things can cost hundreds of dollars, unless of course, you are a Jack (or Jill) of all trades and can do it all yourself. Which in my case, that's what I did with my second book.
As most of my fans know, my books are dedicated to teaching people about animals and nature. I live for this. Animals are the heart of my being. They have helped me in many ways, and in turn, I like to help animals by educating people about them, and donating my God given talents to help raise money for their cause. It is a win win situation, and the greater good for all concerned.
An African Painted Dog Without A Patch, is a fictional story with non-fiction woven into it. The book is filled with action and adventure and is educational too. It talks about the anatomy of African Painted Dogs, explains the difference between the painted dogs and hyenas, as well as the dogs status in the wild. The back of the book has a glossary of the animals living in the Serengeti of Africa. The brightly colored illustrations capture the expression of the animals while giving a sense of humor to the story.
The, About the Author, page in the book leads my readers to my website which will educate them more about African Painted Dogs and how we can all help protect them in the wild. A portion of the proceeds from the book will help both captive and wild African Painted Dogs.
You can order an autographed book for yourself or a loved one directly through me. The book will have a card from the Painted Dog Protection Initiative inserted in it.
