The Fireworks Begin
Strangely enough, that didn't seem to stop people from blowing off their fireworks. Even though the lightning show was spectacular enough, many folks ignored the danger of it all and continued with their celebrations.
After all, what's the 4th of July without fireworks.
It has been a tradition for many years along with barbecues, pool parties, hotdogs, bwats, beer, and chips.
As much as we enjoy the ohhhs and auwwwws of the sights and sounds of the day, some of our furry friends think of it in a much different way.
Dogs and Fireworks
After working as a vet assistant and professional dog groomer for many years, I heard many horror stories with pets and the 4th of July. Many people had to give their pets tranquilizers to help settle them down. I found a better way to approach the sounds of fireworks and thunder. With all 3 of my malamutes, I sang them the Thunder Boom Boom Boom song, and Firecracker Pop Pop Pop song, throughout their lives. The songs I made up, as I jump around clapping and singing, smiling, and making them think it's no big deal. For the most part, it works very well. Until I take them out to do their business. I try to hurry them along. When they finally look calm, the neighborhood blows off fireworks that sound like bombs. I keep Kia on a leash close to me so she doesn't run off even though we have a fenced in backyard. But she now knows that if she does her business immediately, she can get back in the house fast.
Kia and Klondike on Tom Skilling's Weather Forecast
Tom's note to me:
"Love the shot, Anna! Happy 4th to you, Kia and Klondike!"
Was the best 4th of July ever.
