The week of February 8, 2020 is the 144th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show with the main event on Feb. 10-11. The Westminster is one of the worlds greatest dog shows. Kind of like, the Superbowl of Dog shows. Their mission is "to celebrate the companionship of dogs while promoting responsible dog ownership, health, and breed preservation".
A woman from Mattel Barbies personally helped me get the doll ready. Couldn't find real glasses though. LOL. Tonight, Supergirl and I are going to the dog show.
A dog show has multiple competitions: Junior (Showmanship) handling, Obedience competition, Agilty, and Conformation. Each receive awards and titles for a specific function.
The Conformation competition is made up of seven groups of dogs. Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, Herding, Sporting, Working, and Terrier. Each group has specific breeds of dogs who share similar characteristics. An example is that many Sporting Group breeds possess thick, water-repellent coats resistant to harsh hunting conditions. The sporting group has Retrievers, Setters, and Spaniels among the group.
Each breed competes with each other to see who is the best dog to represent it's breed in the Breed competition, then move on to the groups. All of the first place dogs in each group, compete in the final showing. Which ever breed of dog wins the overall show, becomes the Best in Show Winner.
